New ultra-compact and powerful SnapIn from ChemiCon

The electronics industry is in a state of constant change: engineers are faced with the challenge of developing ever more compact, powerful and highly efficient systems. Whether compact power supplies, space-saving industrial drive and automation solutions or servers with high power density - the focus is on ensuring maximum performance in minimum space without compromising reliability.

The selection of suitable passive components is therefore becoming increasingly important.

The new generation of these capacitors is based on newly developed, patented technologies that include improvements in the structure of the cathode film and separator paper. An optimised cathode foil with a significantly increased surface area is what makes the higher capacitance in comparable cans possible in the first place.

The result is the ChemiCon KHX and LHX series, both designed for use at +105°C and with a rated service life of 3,000 and 5,000 hours respectively under full ripple current.

Up to 25% more capacitance

Compared to previous series such as KMS and LHS, the new capacitors offer a significantly higher capacitance in the same installation space. This increased capacitance density is particularly important for applications where space is limited, without compromising performance or service life.

Up to 75% more ripple current carrying capacity

This property allows the capacitors to be operated with significantly higher ripple current or to significantly increase the rated life due to the non-utilisation of the current.

For the first time, there is a distinction between a standard version and a version with increased ripple current capability with slightly reduced capacity. The maximum ripple currents are 5.97 A for the KHX series and 4.55 A for the LHX series (both in a 50x60 mm can at 350 V nominal voltage).

These advances enable the development of more compact DC links with a smaller number of capacitors, particularly in industrial drive technology, which leads to significantly lower overall system costs.
