Shunt resistors from Resi

Current measuring resistors, or shunts for short, are used to measure the current in a circuit. By measuring the voltage drop that occurs when the current flows through the known resistor, the current can be calculated using Ohm's law (I = U / R).

In general, the resistance of the current measuring resistor is very small, between 1m Ω and 1 Ω, with a narrow tolerance and low TCR, as the ohmic losses should be minimised.

In applications that require precision measurement, the resistance of the terminal and the contact resistance may be higher than the nominal value of the current measuring resistor itself. Therefore, when using resistors with two terminals, the error caused by the terminals can be serious.

To eliminate the influence of the voltage drop caused by the terminals (not by the resistive element) and to obtain an extremely accurate current value, a four-pole resistor with Kelvin structure is recommended.

RESI's ‘Trimming Free’ technology avoids the loss of rated current caused by trimming and also avoids current accumulation hotspots caused by trimmed notches, which significantly improves the reliability of the product. By improving the welding quality, the thermal EMF of the product is significantly reduced, which improves its long-term stability.

Incidentally, RESI has all manufacturing expertise in-house and is therefore independent of suppliers. The resistance alloys and thick-film pastes are supplied in-house in addition to the electron beam welding (EBW) production technology. In addition to security of supply, the complete internal value chain also ensures extremely competitive prices.

Most products are tested in accordance with AEC-Q200 and can be used for automotive applications, including in the Battery Management System (BMS).
