RESI TPAN0247: Low-Inductance TO-247 Power Resistor Rated up to 150 W
High power handling, low inductance and a wide resistance range: the RESI TPAN0247 combines a power rating of up to 150 W with a compact TO-247 package. This rating requires a suitable heat sink and a flange temperature of 25 °C or below.

The series covers resistance values from 0.1 Ω to 1 MΩ, with tolerances starting at ±0.5%. Manufacturer-listed application areas include power electronics, industrial test equipment, semiconductor equipment and automotive electronics.
Low Inductance for Fast-Switching Applications
With a specified inductance of ≤0.1 µH, the TPAN0247 addresses applications that require low parasitic inductance. Typical uses listed by the manufacturer include RC snubbers, discharge circuits, current measurement and high-frequency circuits.
Further applications include switching power supplies, uninterruptible power supplies, industrial laser systems and welding equipment. For pulsed operation, designers must take the pulse energy and pulse power curves in the datasheet into account.

Thermal Design Determines Usable Power
Heat is dissipated through the mounting flange. The manufacturer requires a heat sink for power dissipation above 3.5 W. Thermal paste or a suitable thermal pad provides the thermal interface between the flange and the heat sink.
To operate at the full 150 W rating, the flange temperature must remain at or below 25 °C. At higher flange temperatures, the permissible power decreases according to the derating curve. The relevant measurement point is on the flange beneath the resistive element; ambient temperature alone is insufficient to assess the thermal conditions.
