JAE DX07: Easily Replaceable USB-C Receptacles – No Soldering Required

Repair-friendly design starts at the component level: JAE’s replaceable DX07 Series USB Type-C® receptacles combine a solderless PCB connection with USB4 support and power delivery of up to 240 W.

USB-C ports experience mechanical stress during everyday use. If a soldered receptacle becomes damaged, replacing it can require extensive PCB rework. JAE’s repairable DX07 versions simplify this process: they are secured with screws and can be replaced using a screwdriver.

The electrical connection is established through spring contacts that press against gold-plated PCB pads. This compression-mount design eliminates the need for a soldered connection between the receptacle and the board. Replacement therefore avoids the thermal stress associated with desoldering and resoldering.

For device manufacturers, this approach offers opportunities to simplify servicing and keep otherwise functional assemblies in use for longer. JAE explains the concept in detail on its product page for the repairable DX07 Series.

Technical Highlights

  • High-speed connectivity: Supports USB4 Version 2.0 at 40 Gbps × 2.
  • High-power charging: Compatible with USB Power Delivery EPR, supporting up to 240 W at 48 V and 5 A.
  • Robust construction: A metal injection moulded (MIM) shell provides impact resistance.
  • Mechanical durability: Rated for 10,000 mating cycles.
  • Operating temperature: −40 °C to +85 °C.
  • Two configurations: Single-port with 24 contacts and dual-port with 48 contacts.
  • Specification compliance: Meets USB Type-C Specification Release 2.4.

JAE lists laptops, monitors, docking stations and other PC peripherals among the intended applications. Integration requires suitable PCB contact pads and mechanical mounting provisions to be incorporated into the board and enclosure design. Actual data rates and charging power depend on the complete system implementation.
